Phishing
This involves emails from a legitimate-looking source that attempt to convince you to share your personal information. Phishing consists of using threats, warnings or enticements in order to create a sense of urgency.
Signs to look for in phishing emails:
- A request for you to establish contact through a link the sender provides
- Blatant grammar and spelling mistakes
- Unsolicited attachments
- Generic greetings such as “Dear User”
Spear Phishing
These are emails targeting individuals or companies by using the information they’ve already acquired.
Pop-Up Window Phishing
A window or ad pop-up that tempts you to make communication through fraudulent phone numbers or links.
SMS Phishing (Smishing) and Voice Phishing (Vishing)
SMS phishing involves attempting to acquire personal information such as passwords and bank account logins through electronic communication. Voice phishing involves identity thieves attempting to gain private information through telephone systems.
Be Cautious
Do not download attachments from emails unless you trust the sender. Clicking on links or opening unsolicited attachments could result in identity-stealing malware.
